frequently asked questions
What should I wear?
I generally ask you to bring along at least 3 different items of clothing so we can see what's going to work best for you. You should avoid bright colours, and anything heavily patterned or striped, as this will be distracting in your Headshot. Bold textures don't tend to work well either so leave items with lace or similar at home.
If you're bringing a few shirts or blouses along, please make sure they are clean and freshly ironed with care taken on the collar to make sure it has a crisp turnover.
Jewellery should be kept to a minimum, so large hooped or dangly earrings should be taken off, stud type earrings are best. Necklaces are best removed as well as these can be distracting.
how should i wear my makeup?
Keep it subtle and natural. Bright lipstick and heavy eye shadow or blusher will be distracting. Your Headshot is for you to promote yourself in a professional manner, so looking like you're ready for a night out won't send the right message to potential clients finding you online for the first time.
how should i prepare for my headshot session?
It's best to arrive fresh for your session so get a good nights sleep and avoid a night out on the town the night before. Stay hydrated and this will help you to look great in your Headshot. And, don't worry about having your headshot taken, it's a great experience and I will do my best to make sure you have a good time.
i'm not photogenic, what should I do?
I believe that everyone is photogenic. It's not up to you to look good in your Headshot, that's my job, and I will use a variety of coaching techniques to help you relax in front of the camera and bring out the best in you. People who don't think they are photogenic have generally had a bad experience having their picture taken. This could be because they haven't used a Headshot specialist who knows how to get people confident and comfortable in front of the camera. I have lots of tips and tricks to help you so don't worry.
how long is a headshot session?
An individual Headshot Session booking is for up to 1 hour, but if you want to try a lot of different looks and backgrounds, or have unlimited time, you can book as many additional hours as you wish.
The length of time it takes to conduct a Team Headshot Session will be determined by how many people there are to be photographed.
can you come to our office?
Yes, of course. If you require the entire team to be photographed it's often easier for you if I come to your office. The space required for me to set up the equipment needed would be discussed with you during the consultation.
what retouching is applied to my chosen images?
Retouching is all about quality control and is discussed at the end of the session once you have chosen the images you would like to purchase. Anything distracting is removed, so things like temporary blemishes, stray hairs and any fluff on your clothing.
what background can i have?
The choice is yours and I have a selection to choose from. I will advise you during our consultation, but we can also try different backgrounds during the shoot to see which you prefer.
can i have a makeup artist present?
Yes, but there would be an additional fee to cover their costs.
how much does a headshot session cost?
For a Headshot Session of up to 1 hour at the studio, there is a non-refundable deposit/booking fee of £59 required to secure your date and time. If you require more time, for instance if you want to have multiple looks and backgrounds, or if you have a team of people to photograph, you can book extra hours at £30 per hour. At the end of the session we go through and select the images you would like to purchase and these are priced at £35 each, including retouching.
For location Headshot Sessions the price is determined by where the shoot will take place, and how many people will need to be photographed.
